We've wanted to add videography to our services for a long time now. It seems like a natural fit. In the last year, I've spent some time talking to a lot of talented videographers. A couple times it felt like we were really close to being able to make the addition. But it never felt 100% right. I met some great videographers, but nothing jumped out and said, "Yes, this is the person we want to photograph/video weddings together."

But then we had the opportunity to photograph a wedding with Brian. His professionalism, demeanor, knowledge of the business and attentiveness to the bride and groom were unmatched by anyone we have worked with in our opinion. At the end of the night, we exchanged business cards. I took a look at his portfolio that night, and was even more impressed.

Just a few weeks later, Brian and his wife, Kristi, met with Emily and I, and we got things moving. Loveland and Fort Collins Wedding Videography!

We're excited to announce that Photography by Van Pelt, Inc. is now providing wedding videography! This is something that we've wanted to do for a very long time. We've planned it, scratched it, planned it again, and then scratched it again! I finally decided to scratch it completely. I decided that there wasn't a videographer that I was completely satisfied with. I decided that no one lived up to our high standards. So I decided that I simply wasn't going to do it.

Then we ended up working a wedding with Brian. Brian seemed like a normal videographer. He seemed at first like every other videographer we had worked with. But throughout the day, I saw him interact with the bride and groom and the wedding party. I saw his professionalism. I saw his dedication. I saw that he saw the whole picture of the wedding day. This was a person who definitely saw that the wedding day wasn't just about one single vendor... it was about the bride, the groom, and their love for each other. So later... I decided that we should hang out. We talked.... we laughed.... we strategized.... and we realized that we were a perfect fit.

It's not everyday that we get to photograph a brand new venue in Colorado. And not every venue is as amazing as Stove Prairie Ranch!

This is our sixth year photographing weddings in Colorado, and we've been fortunate enough to photograph some gorgeous venues. You can read about many of those venues on our blog, and you can see many Colorado venue photos on our portfolio section of our website at www.PhotographybyVanPelt.com.

Stove Prairie Ranch is unique though. You can see

that by taking a look at the Stove Prairie Ranch photos in this posting. It's open Colorado space out there along with some of the most unique buildings you will see in all of Colorado.

The couple that we photographed booked us for just 5 hours. I could have spent the entire weekend up there! It was gorgeous! The ceremony and reception sites are phenomenal. If you know me, you may have heard me over-use that word. It's not being over-used... I promise!

When we photograph a new venue, we always get there a little earlier than normal. When we drove up, I couldn't believe how nice it was. The bride told us how great it was, and I guess I underestimated the beauty because I felt like we were in some foreign fairy tale when we arrived!

Wedding Photography at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield

We photographed our first Botanic Gardens wedding Friday! Beautiful photos! I can't wait until the bride and groom see them all! There were beautiful flowers, a red barn, a silo, and some really sweet old cars! The ceremony site had mountains in the background, and it made the perfect wedding backdrop. And the weather was perfect! Not too hot and NO RAIN... which always makes me happy.

The bride's room where she got ready in was great too. There was plenty of room, so there was much less clutter that could get in the background of the photos. Mirrors and windows are always something that Emily looks for to make great getting ready photos. We didn't have much getting ready time for this wedding because the couple was running a little late. But she got some great shots in during the little bit of time she had.

I wish we would have had more time. I could have shot there all day!

Before we left I was also able to capture a couple great photos of the reception barn and silo with the moon off to the side. I caught a beautiful blue sky!

Wedding Season in Northern Colorado!

Wedding season is here! And the peak of wedding session is coming quickly! But if you are engaged but not getting married this year, you are probably in the planning process. So it's a great time to scout your favorite venues. If you are getting married in May, we recommend that you view your wedding venue in May so that you can have a good idea of what it will look like when your big day comes.

But plan early! Many venues book two years in advance! And after you book your venue, it's a good idea to book your other vendors. Both photographers and DJ's book very quickly. Many of our clients book us 9 months to 2 years in advance. And we only require $150 down to save your date if done so far enough ahead of time. So take a look at our portfolio by clicking here. And if Photography by Van Pelt, Inc. is the right photographer for you, be sure to save your date right away... even if your wedding isn't until 2013 or later. This way no one else will steal your date away from you.

If you want some help, after you've booked the venue, photographer and DJ, or even beforehand, consider hiring a wedding planner. By the time you've booked those three vendors, you've probably realized that it's a lot of work to plan such an important event. A wedding planner is really going to help you relax and celebrate with much less stress. Some even offer "Day-Of" services where they just help on the wedding day. Some offer phone and email advice as separate services too if you just have a few questions here and there.

Caterers should also be hired as soon as possible. It's up to you when you book everything, but the longer you wait, the more likely it is that you will have to settle for your 2nd or 3rd choice. Book your videographer if you're having one, and your officiate, florist, cake artist/baker around 6 to 9 months ahead of time. And don't forget transportation (limos etc). You're typically safe to reserve limos two months ahead of time.

Fundraiser for the Children's Hospital

This is the little girl who started the whole thing! Julie Scott's niece, Clara. Here's a little info about Clara: "Clara was four months old, she became ill and was later diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, a rare disease that causes extreme inflammation of the blood vessels. Unfortunately, Clara’s case was complicated and the main arteries to her heart developed severe aneurysms. The doctors, nurses and staff at the Children’s Hospital worked tirelessly to save her life. They combined their expertise for experimental treatment options and five years later Clara is thriving! Her latest tests showed the aneurysms have almost completely resolved, but her condition will require continuous check-ups at the Children’s Hospital in Denver."

That's what prompted Julie Scott of Scott Chiropractic to start the annual fundraiser for Children's Hospital. It was a fun day! And Photography by Van Pelt was thrilled to help out!

Stevie and Regan's Engagement Session

I had the pleasure of doing Stevie and Regan's portrait session yesterday. They drove up from Cheyenne to get their engagement photos taken care of, and we had a blast!

I love engagement sessions because it gives me a chance to get to know the couple a little more and find out what their preferred style is. I took around 70 photos of Stevie and Regan, and I can't wait to see which ones they choose.

I used a variety of lenses including zoom and fisheye. So it will be fun to see what they like best.

Another great thing about the session is that we were actually able to do it! Stevie and I talked on the phone Monday, and we were both concerned about the weather. We were all determined to make it happen no matter what though. They preferred outdoors, but we had the studio set up as a backup. But God stopped the rain long enough for us to get it done!

It was a beautiful wedding at the Ellis Ranch Carriage House. The bride and her father rode in on a horse-drawn carriage. The ceremony was beautiful! The bride and groom celebrated with their first kiss and then rode off in the carriage.

This is Megan and Donavan, and they got married on January 27th at the Tapestry House. Yes, the white specks are snow, and yes, it was a bit chilly!

Metal Prints

We're so excited about our new metal prints! These amazing prints are actually printed on sheets of metal (not like "metallic" prints that are printed on paper that has a metallic-like gloss). These are the real thing, and they are truly magnificent!

They're vibrant, luminescent, durable, archival, and amazing! They're great for any photo that you want to have last for generations!

The photo is infused into the surface... not printed on the surface. So generations and generations will be able to enjoy the photograph. Weddings, Senior Portraits, and Baby Portraits will really benefit from this. No one wants their photographs to fade or to be ruined in a flood. Metal prints may be your answer!

Keepin' it fresh!

How do you keep it fresh?!

Recently a friend of mine asked how we keep it fresh? What he meant was, how do we do a wedding on Friday and then wake up the next day and do it again... without making it all look the same. Why are our weddings all unique?

The first answer that came to mind was that every wedding is different. So it's easy! But when I thought about it, we really do take a unique approach to every single wedding that we do. So that made me start to wonder... how do we do that?!

Then I realized that I guess we have just always made it a habit to make sure that every wedding we do gets the same unique treatment that the bride and groom deserve. I know that's what I would want my daughter's wedding photographer to do (which is an issue that I better not have to deal with until at least 2031!) I think it's just programmed into us to push the limits of creativity and to make the bride and groom say "Wow!" every time they see their photos for the first time. It's just what we do!

Loveland, Fort Collins Maternity Portraits

What a great maternity session! This is Amber and little Lysette. I've known Amber and her husband Joel for around 7 years, and Emily has known her for almost all of her life. So it was a huge honor and blessing when she asked us to do her maternity session.

And nothing makes a maternity session better than having the older sibling in the photos too! Lysette's absolutely adorable, and she loves the camera!

So the combination of Amber, Joel and Lysette made for a fun portrait session and amazing photos. I took around 100 photos, so I can't wait to see which ones they get prints of.

It was a fun day at our Loveland studio for engagement sessions! We are honored to be doing the weddings of Krista & Justin in 2010 and Jason & Chelsey this October. Both couples were great to hang out with, and the photos turned out great!

Chelsey and Jason decided to go for a studio session, and Justin and Krista chose one of our locations by the lake.

Marek's Newborn Photos

One of the best things about my line of work is that I get to see the cutest babies in the world! I have two of my own, so I'm a little partial to them! But Marek is absolutely adorable!

Marek's mommy brought him by, and hwe was the most perfect little angel that a photographer could ask for! This is just one of the many images I captured. I'm always amazed after a maternity portrait session. Nothing can describe the feeling you get being entrusted with the first portrait session a human being has ever had. It has always been a debate whether life begins at conception or at birth. I personally believe that it's at conception, which gives me the pleasure of being the first photographer to have ever photographed Makai!

Makai's parents, Phil and Darcy, are going to be amazing parents, and they were also very photogenic! Thanks so much to them for helping make their portrait session so incredible. Candice and Jeremy, Lone Hawk Ranch in Longmont

Candice and Jeremy got married on May 30, 2009, and Lone Hawk Ranch in Longmont. This was my first wedding there... and Lone Hawk Ranch is gorgeous! The beautiful venue combined with a handsome groom, gorgeous bride, and fabulous group of guests, made the day absolutely perfect.

I took over 1300 photos in just 5 hours, but, for a photographer who loves what he does, it was impossible not to!

And Candice and Jeremy make such a great couple. I can't wait until they come back to us for family portraits in a few years! It was such a pleasure to help them with their wedding. I can't wait for them to see their photos.

I know they're going to love them and be able to relive the day. That's something that we really love about what we do. So much planning goes into the wedding day. And so much would be forgotten so fast. But we help them keep those memories.

Colorado Weddings in May

Wow! May was such a blast! May usually isn't a very busy month for us, but this month it was rockin'! With 4 weddings and a bunch of portrait sessions, we had such a great time helping our clients capture their memories so that they can savor them for decades to come.

We were so fortunate to be able to be able to work with such great clients month. We love being able to get to know the people we work with. But, most of all, we love to hear their comments when they view their photos. It makes us really enjoy the work that we do.

We were so honored to be asked to do Robert and Becky's wedding photography for them in Milliken this last Sunday. We already have the photos ready for them and are about to begin their wedding DVD.

It was a beautiful day in Milliken. The rain started coming down towards the end of the ceremony, but it didn't bother anyone at all, including us! We're always prepared for everything!

Bob and Becky make such a cute couple, and their families and friends welcomed us like they had known us forever! They were a blast!

Adrienne's Senior Portraits 2010

I had the pleasure of doing Adrienne's senior portraits yesterday. She's an amazing young lady, and her photos turned out incredibly well.

Not only was the session a blast, but I also had a great time trying out some new backgrounds that we have put in our studio. The graffiti wall looks amazing! And the barn wall looks unbelievable! We have so many backgrounds and such a huge variety that our senior portraits are going to be even more incredible than last year!

Lesondra and Noah's Engagement Session

I had the opportunity to do the engagement session for Lesondra and Noah. They're getting married this summer, and they're having us do the photography for their wedding too. I love engagement sessions because it gives me more time to get to know the bride and groom. This time was no exception!

Expecting mothers often ask us when the best time to schedule their maternity portrait session is. The best time is 32-35 weeks (if you're not doing a progression photo which you should ask us about because they're amazing!) This is the most flattering time to have your session, and you will probably be the most comfortable (well, at least more comfortable than you are at 39 weeks!)

And be sure to get Dad involved too! They make some really cute photos that you will cherish forever!

Meet Mollee!

She's one of our Senior Ambassadors from one of the local high schools. Her session was a blast! I got to meet her boyfriend, and they make a really cute couple... maybe we'll be their wedding photographer in the future... the way distant future!!! :)

This is just one of about 100 photos that she had to choose from. She was one of the first seniors to do a session in our new studio (which is amazing by the way!!)

Rachel and Noah's April wedding was a blast! They make an adorable couple, and we had so much fun with them and their families. It's a great feeling when a couple is thrilled with our work, but it's even better when we're thrilled with how much fun the day was!

You'll hear me say it a lot... we love all our brides and grooms. But every single couple is special to us in a different way. We know that Rachel and Noah's marriage is going to outlast time. We can't wait to do their family portraits in the future and to watch their family grow.

We did the senior portraits for Rachel's sister, Jenessa. So we have gotten to know the family and have just fallen in love with all of them. And now we can't wait to do Jenessa's wedding... years down the road of course!

Our New Additional Portrait Studio in Loveland!

I've said so many times that the new studio is almost done... almost done... almost done... and then I said that it's finally done. Well... I don't think it will ever be done. We're always adding to our portrait studios in Loveland, and I guess that will never change!

We were so honored to be asked to do Peter and Wynell's wedding a couple weeks ago. We did Wynell's sister's wedding last year, and they loved our work. And we loved them!
